Dear Perwaiz Salahuddin Sahib:
Thanks very much - as already confirmed I will
attend the function, honestly I love you people
and the programs.
As I said above I like you both and that is
why I am giving my sincere suggestion. In your
last program, we heard Mr Afzal Sahir and it was
almost his show. Now in the forthcoming
program, please keep only NADEEM SHAH as lot of
people donot understand punjabi at all and
frankly speaking the punjabi of Mr.Sahir is
difficult so far so I am a punjabi and I could
not understand him well. A mohtarma was
sitting near to me, she was from Lahore and she
said the same thing.
Please donot mix these two different people
"the poet and the singer". Keep only Nadeem
Shah on 18th and you will see 80 to 100 people
will attend.
suggested and my respectful regards.

Dear Perwaiz Salahuddin:

Congratulations and keep it up...

Thanks. I suggest that you may have a seminar
discussion on the need to make Pakistan a
liberal state free from religious exploitation,
extremism, etc. and also change laws for
exemplary punishment to crminals to put our
house in order. Interested speakers may be
allowed about 10 minutes time each. Thanks.

Thanks Pervaiz Salahuddin Sahib
I highly
appreciate your invitation. Evolution is an
important topic and I shall be honoured to
attend the event on July 24 2011.
Evolution is primary natural
phenomenon and prevails on each aspect of the
universe. Nature completes its schemes in
ascending steps of evolution
الْمَعَارِجِ.
Evolution is manifested by time. Time is a
series of changes brought about by fundamental
forces of nature (MALAIYKA).
I am sure, the above event will be a great
opportunity to ‘take away’ knowledge.
Sincere

DEAR PERVAIZ SAHIB,
HOW ARE YOU ? I HAVE HEARD NOTHING FROM YOUR
END FOR QUITE SOME TIME. I SINCERELY HOPE
THAT YOU , YOUR FOTH AND DR.L KHALID SOHAIL
WOULD BE O.K.
AMONG THE EXISTING MONOPOLIES OF URDU /
PAKISTANI LITERARY ORGANIZATIONS, YOURS IS THE
ONLY ONE WHICH HAS A DEMOCRATIC TOUCH, FREEDOM
OF EXPRESSION AND NO "
PARTICULAR-PERSONAL-PROJECTIONS" !.
A FEW WEEKS BACK, MY ARTICLE ON WRITERS'
FORUM 'S MEETING ( Ladies Writers) WAS
PUBLISHED IN THE SUNDAY TIMES. IN BETWEEN THE
COMMENTS, I ALSO DISCLOSED SOME
HISTORICAL FACTS,
ABOUT THE FORUM AND SOME
INDIVIDUALS. I AM STILL RECEIVING CURSES FOR
TELLING THE TRUTH !
IN A MQM MUSHA-ERA, A FEW MONTHS BACK, I GOT
SHOCKED WHEN NASEEM SYED DECALRED ON THE STAGE
THAT SHE WAS ASHAMED TO RECITE HER POETRY
AFTER ZAMIN JAFRI, AS ACCORDING TO HER ZAMIN
WAS A BETTER & SENIOR POET THAN HER !
ON THE 19TH OF JUNE, SHNAWER SULTAN , A
PRODUCER OF AN URDU RADIO PROGRAM, ARRANGED A
MUSHAERA, IN THE HONOUR OF ASHFAQ HUSSAIN. MRS.
SARWATH JAMAL FROM ISLAMABAD AND MAHMOOD
AKHTER FROM LAHORE WERE ALSO PARTICIPATING AS
SPECIAL GUESTS..
SULTAN SAHIB, ASKED MUNEEF ASHER, TWO WEEKS
BEFORE THE MUSHAERA,
TO GIVE HIM NAMES OF RECOGNIZED POETS.
SULTAN SHOWED ME THE LIST JUST TWO DAYS BEFORE
THE EVENT, AND I GOT SHOCKED TO NOTE THAT
NAMES OF NUZHAT SIDDIQUI, RASHEED NADEEM,
AZAAL NAVEED, RAFI RAZA AND OF DR. KHALID
SOHAIL WERE NOT THERE ! YOU CAN EASILY
GUESS THE REASON !
IN THIS FILTHY & SUFFOCATING CIRCUMSTANCES ,
FORTH IS THE ONLY FORUM WERE SOME FRESH AIR IS
AVAILABLE. PLEASE KEEP IT UP . MY BEST REGARDS
TO YOU AND TO DR.KHALID SOHAIL.

Family of
Hearts
My name is
Mumtaz Khan and so far I have not been introduced to be a
member of Family of Heats.
I saw the
web site and was pleased to see discussion topics at higher
intellectual level.
Religion and science
friend or enemies is very interesting topic.
Religion and
science are opposite poles. Religion is discipline of
rituals with manmade concepts where as the science is the
name of human experience and observation of the universe.
In case of
Islam as a
DEEN,
Quran and science
are
from the same source. Quran is
WORD OF GOD
and SCIENCE
IS WORK OF GOD.
Both explain each other.
Knowledge
needs of the Muslim of 21 century are different
Why we
muslim of 21 century need science to explain Quran or vice
versa? Equipped with scientific knowledge, our need is to
understand Quran which do not contradict universe made by
the same source.
I compiled
two articles comparing Quran vs. science on the following
subjects:
I.
Six stages of the creation of the universe – inspired
by Steve Hawking’s Brief History of Time
II.
Origin of life on earth – coming of ADAM
It will be
an honour to me if I can speak on the subject, with the
great interest to the learned members of the FOTH.

Dear Pervaiz Salahudin Sahib:
Thank you for including me on your mailing list . I
was amazed to see how you gathered intellectuals
team of Pakistani descents in here. Also, surprised
how you got my official email contact, though I
would like to use my hotmail address as I see that
more frequently. I was indeed looking for some group
like you have and particularly where musical shows
also add spiritual food. I know some of the faces on
your list. Since I live in Pickering area and are
utterly deprived of intellectually rich circles like
in Mississauga.
I will be happy to be included in your Canadian

Keep me posted for the events. I may choose some to

Dear
Pervez Sahib,
A very
happy and promising new year to you and the family.
Your
FOTH is an amazing medium and
prominent forum for superb intellectual discourses and
discussions. I thank you for carrying my views as well.
I have
a question about the Chowk
forum that is also a leading forum for the writers to
participate. It is eminently a prestigious conduit for
productive brain storming. I have been sending my
articles to the Chowk which they have been publishing.
But of late it is perhaps my 15th article
that chose to ignore. The titles and themes of the
articles were as usual current and critical. I have been
in the writing business for 25 years now as the editor
of various English newspapers in Pakistan. These
articles which are not carried by
Chowk are later sent to
other periodicals and are instantly published with
gratitude.
What
could be the possible reason for outright rejection of
my submissions although earlier they published around 20
articles sent by me?
Since
Dr Sohail is very
close to Chowk, I wonder if he could decipher the latest
treatment of my articles because if these are being
rejected in the same fashion, I better stop sending them
and rely on other periodicals and dailies.
Kindly
guide me.
With
very warm regards,
Saeed

Hi Mr. Salahuddin,
I have read about all these information by your web site and
than accepted your invitation so Inshallah I will be there
on Feb 14 2010. and one thing more it is good to have
seminar at this topic b/c it is very sensitive topic for our
people who are living in western countries and raising their
kids in this country. People from our culture get into
conflicts when they come across to discuss about this topic
due to our education, values and western society perceive it
shyness or something like that.
It is essential to invite people from multi culture and all
age groups to educate them. Thanks.

DEAR PERVAIZ SAHIB,
KINDLY FIND SOME
HISTORICAL FACTS I HAVE BEEN ABLE TO COLLECT FROM
THE HISTORY OF MUSLIMS (ISLAM). CLERGY,
POLITICIANS AND PARTICULARLY POETS HAVE TWISTED
FACTS AND CONCOCTED EVENTS IN SUCH A MANNER THAT
THEY TURNED INTO DRAMATIC STORIES. THIS NOT ONLY
TARNISHED THE IMAGE OF OUR ELDERS BUT ADVERSELY
REFLECTED ON THE TEACHINGS OF ISLAM ITSELF
ULTIMATELY DIVIDING MUSLIMS INTO DIFFERENT SECTS..

Dear Mr. Perwaiz
Thanks a lot for such a warm welcome. I would try my best to
spread and increase these humanist thoughts , in fact we
have many like minded people here in Karachi Pakistan who r
not aware of your site, but I would definitely introduce it
to them and will keep in touch. It would have been a joyful
event for me to meet people like u over there in Canada and
participate in various gatherings, I m also a singer, I play
harmonium and perform in concerts. Mr. Nisar Bazmi the
famous Pakistani film music director was my teacher for 8
years, now Mr. Taj Multani is my teacher. but I m thousands
of Km away, may be one day we will meet, Dr. Khalid Sohail
is well acquainted to me . He sent me his marvelous books
few months back and his letter he wrote to me is an asset.
Please let me know how can I obtain other books and
literature?
Can I get addresses or phone numbers of our humanist friends
in Karachi Pakistan?

Nothing special except that I
am a religion less, wisdom full logical, reasonable,
broadminded, open-minded, freethinking, scientific person.
I m not superstitious and dio not believe in any

not to waste time , energy, resources & money in useless,
fruitless activities and events. Division of humanity on
the basis of ideologies is inhuman.
I also do not believe in sanctification of anything a deity,

Dear Pervaiz,
Assalam o Alaykum.!!!
Hope this finds you in the
best of health.
It is wonderful to get
your mails.
I am rather much inspired
by the name of your organization.
No doubt we all need Heart
to Be a Family.
(A Community Where all are
friends, apart from Region, Religion, Color, Creed or
Caste).
As I am living very far
from your country I cannot participate in you trainings.
For that I do feel perturbed.
But if you don't mind do
enroll me as the member of your esteem
FOTH
organization.
Pervaiz,
I am 56, Ghazala Alam,
from Lahore, PAKISTAN. I want a platform all around the
world to work for peace & harmony.
"UNIVERSAL PEACE & HARMONY
INTERNATIONAL"
is the suggested name for
this group.
I have started visiting
schools & colleges as to touch the young generation to
come forward for the cause of Peace & Harmony.
But I am alone & have no
support from anyone. As people are not much aware of any
such idea.
My means of income are
rare, as I do work even at 56 (Now I have started my 57
Blessed year) & earn my own living...
If you do not mind kindly
extend my message of Peace on your portal & hopefull you
can also contribute some efforts towards this noble
cause.
The work is not very
difficult as you already have ONE platform. FOTH can
arrange a walk,
aling with students and
other general public, carrying banners with slogans of
PEACE for everyone existing on this earth.
I hope you will feel good
with this idea & we can then exchange further more about
this & one day we can manage something for humanity.
Hope to hear a very
positive response from you at the earliest.
Best Regards,
Ghazala
Ms. Ghazala Alam.

Your Message: Dear Pervaiz,
Got one email a few days back from your forum. But it was
all about some names and articles. Yesterday Mubashir Tahir
told me about this forum and surprisingly this morning I
found FOTH mail. Well if Ch Hameed, Prof Pervaiz Pervazi and
Dr Hoodbye are your members, they must have thought good
about you so why not I ask for its membership.
Two years back I moved from Karachi to London. By end of Oct
I plan to visit Toronto. May be If there is any forum in
those days, I would wish to attend that and meet you again
after 31 years. Last time I met you was in Frankfurt when I
visited Mubashir with whom you were sharing lodging. I still
remeber your "CHCHA KHUSH KEETA AAY", Regards. Daud Tahir

Dear Pevaiz Sahib,
Encouraged by your COURAGE
of publishing, on your web-site all type of articles,
painful or sarcastic, I wish to subscribe some of mine.
They will be in Urdu becasue I do not have full command
over English language and can not thoroughly express
myself.. My Urdu articles will be, however, composed on
"In-page" program.
You know that I am a
Muslim because I was born in a Muslim family..... just
an accident of birth ! I am not proud of this
accident nor also ashamed of, for it has been something
beyond my control. I want only to be known as a
Gentleman, an honest human being.
Kindly confirm
if you may be able to open the articles composed on
"in-page" program and that you will publish them on your
web-site.

Dear Sohail
i loved your thoughts. This is the biggest truth that we
are all member of just one family. We are all brothers and
sisters. But unfortunately advertantly or inadvertently we
get into trap of some kind of biases which does not let us
detach from our subconscious parochial belief and we refuse
to accept that fact so we continue preaching verbal humanity
but in practice we are and tend to reflect our own selfish
biased identification with a vivid sense of pride and
superiority thus antagonizing others and ultimately we are
again some kind of religious/national/ethnicity etc biased
identification. Its a hard but a great noble task that you
have undertaken and you will always find me on your side in
this struggle. I am Pakistan based and would love to
contribute. SIKANDER HAYAT

notice. If at all I can get out of the afternoon reading

Dear Rajinder...thank you
for your peaceful thoughts. We are all members of the
same family, a human family, family of the heart,
children of Mother Earth Sending you a poem you might
like...
sincerely,
sohail
We Are All Children of Mother Earth
When would we realize?
We are all children of Adam and Eve
Our enemies are our distant cousins
Alienated by ethnic and religious walls
Separated by linguistic and national borders
Divided by the history of holy wars
When would we become aware?
We all belong to the same race
The same tribe, the same family,
the human family
We all share
the same moon, the same sun,
the same mountains, the same valleys,
the same deserts, the same jungles,
the same winds, the same oceans
When would we recognize?
We are all children of mother earth

Dear Mr. Pervaiz:
Thank you for welcoming me
to the FOTH and I assure you that I
will contribute to your cause or should I say our cause
whole-heartedly. You may be based in Pakistan and I may
be from India but in essence we are all from the same
planet and zulm is zulm which has be fought. I come from
a family in a town not a village but a renowned town in
India and my father has fought for the uploftment of the
Dalits and I am using the word with a lot of guilt. Way
back in 1926 my father and three other prominent
citizens of the town summoned some Dalits to a well
situated right in the centre of the town, gave them bath
and asked them to provide some water so that everybody
could watch that my father and his people did not
discriminate against anybody because of their caste,
colour or creed. The mayhem that followed this event is
a long story but my father and his people could not care
less.
Similarly our family has
fought for the Muslims who had chosen to stay behind in
INdia after 1947 and were being persecuted by some
bigoted Hindus.
Mr. Sikander Hayat is
being sent a copy of this email and I leave it to him to
provide you his email address. If I do so it would mean
that I am encroaching upon his provacy.
There is another gentleman
Mr. Ghulam Yusuf an ex-colonel of the Pak army whom I
am also sending a copy and let us see if he shows some
compassion and chooses to join in your crusade. Please
do let me know if he does because I really do not know
him any more like I used to, because of his reaction to
the 26 eleven Mumbai massacre by the same kind of people
who perptrated the Gojra massacre.
I am a retired Immigration
Counsellor who helped hundreds if not thousands of Paki
Sunnis, Shias, Ahmadis and Christians in settling down
in Canada. One of them you may even know, Edwin Williams
from Pindi whose daughter is now aspiring to come here
and I am instrumental in paving the way for her.
Originally I am banker but took the counseling business
after retiring from The Royal Bank of Canada in a senior
position.
Do let me know how can I
be really an effective member of the FOTH. In the
meantime tons of good luck and prayers.

Its never easy to organize an three in one event. Normally a
single event is hard to organize but you did a great job.
The BBQ was great. One cannot do anything if the performers
fail to show up. I hope you are not putting that program on
youtube as i played really bad. Would it be possible to get
the recording of the music section?
Thanks

Pervez Sahib
Yesterday you did a great
job in organizing the picnic event but the music program
would have been better if proper tabla player and
harmonium would have been arranged. Sumona sang really
well. Would it be possible for you to send me the video
of the music program.
Thanks

My Dear Parvez Salahuddin,
Thank you very much for all the hard work you put in to make
the yesterday's event a grand success. But for you and the
kindness of Zahid it would not have been possible. You have
taken disproportionately pictures of "Ladies". which is nice
as IQBAL says "There is all that color in universe because
of the existence/presence of women'. Regards Anwar

Whatever I have seen of FOTH
postings, mostly in the last few months, has been very
impressive. Topics discussed are in general interesting,
relevant, intellectually stimulating, literary in character,
and professionally presented. The people involved in, and
committed to the spirit of, FOTH are well known. I can
visualize this assembly as an emerging, powerful, literary
venue for a presence that goes largely unnoticed in our
day-to-day struggle to survive in this part of the globe.
Congratulations to all of you!

I appreciate your services in Family of The Hearts. Really
you have done very well. You know we are well aware of each

Thank you for the kind
words - and also for creating the opportunity, along
with Dr. Sohail to make the forum possible, and in a
civilized manner! That is a great achievement.
At the end of the day we
can take everything, sit back and reflect and choose

Pervaiz, I usually try browsing through most of your emails
and enjoy. Articles, debates, papers, discussions on
variety of topics are always very interesting and help
enable enhancing the knowledge and perspectives.
The subject letter was though very long but extremely
valuable and interesting. I had the intention of browsing
it as usual but found so interesting that I could not resist
and read in full. The writer has really taken lot of pain
utilizing his best resources and efforts unfolding the
correct history and realities. Writer’s vocabulary and way
of expression is found marvelous. He deserves very high
appreciation. This letter should be mailed to every

Dear Pervaiz,
It is unfortunate that the change of location will prevent
me from attending the Seminar. For this reason, and in order
to make the forum fruitful, engaging, and "relevant," I
strongly recommend to the participants the following (must)
READINGS:
1) THE STORY OF THE QUR'AN. By Ingrid Mattson.
2) MAJOR THEMES OF THE QUR'AN. By Fazlur Rahman
3) "BELIEVING WOMEN" IN ISLAM: UNREADING PATRIARCHAL
INTERPRETATIONS OF
THE QUR'AN. By Asma Barlas, and
4) THE QUR'AN: A SHORT INTRODUCTION. By Farid Esack.

Dear Friends..As a moderator of the seminar I welcome Mr
Feroz Karamali to our seminar. He is more than welcome to
share his views and speak for 10--12 minutes. That is the
time allotted for all speakers and I hope they respect that.
They will have more time as panelists when they are having a
dialogue with the audience. I request Pervaiz Sahib to add
Feroz's picture to the seminar panel. Welcome Feroz to the
seminar. I do not think anyone is threatened by your views.
We might disagree with you but your point of view is always
welcome as we encourage honest dialogues and passionate
discussions. That is how we learn from each other.

Pervaiz sahib
I was looking at the speakers for 'Relevance of Quran to
21st century'. Of all the speakers, and the moderator, only
one believes that Quran is from God,
This is quite an imbalance, for people who do not believe in
Quran to be talking about its relevance.
The relevance of Quran takes on a very serious meaning once
it is proved that it is from God and contains knowledge that
will help mankind. Therefore there should be someone
speaking on this behalf. There should be at least 2
speakers for, and to against, for a fair seminar.
I know FOTH is controlled by non-Muslims who are pushing
their own agenda. But FOTH loses it purpose of being a fair
exchange of ideas in this case, and the panel of speakers
should be revised. I would be glad to speak on the
relevance of Quran in the 21st century.
Feroz |
|
Regarding the FOTH seminar on May 31, 2009 'Relevance of
Quran to 21st century'. it is a shame that we always have
the same speakers. No fresh ideas, just the same old beliefs
of the speakers perhaps repackaged a little. This is almost
like having an Ulema.

A Statement by the Asian Human Rights Commission
What a
disgrace!
How could
a country that claim Islam as its founding religion deny a
segment of its population their right to define themselves
as Muslims and to practice their faith in whatever shape or
form they wish? Equally relevant, how could any
self-respecting person consider the late Zulfikar Bhutto (a
leading member of the feudal Bhutto clan) as a "secular" and
"liberal" national leader when it was his regime that
declared the Ahmadi Muslims as non-Muslims? The ultimate in
arrogance, indeed ignorance, is when a person, let alone a
political leader, gives himself/herself the right to define
another person or to deny people the right to define
themselves (e.g. Golda Meir, a former prime minister of
Israel, denied the existence of such a thing as the
Palestinian people). When has Islam become the "monopoly" of
certain self-appointed "guardians" of the faith? I strongly
believe that one of the greatest dis-services, indeed
damages, that numerous Pakistani leaders, be they military
dictators like the late Zia and Yahya Khan, or despotic
feudal landlords like Zulfikar or the present Asif Zardari,
have "managed" to inflict on Islam and Muslims is their
ignorance of the true spirit of the very faith to which they
claim to belong. Pakistani leaders (and their so-called
secular intellectuals) should give themselves the chance to
read the excellent writings of such great Pakistani Islamic
scholars like the late Fazlur Rahman (author of ISLAM &
MODERNITY, and MAJOR THEMES OF THE QUR'AN) and Asma Barlas
(author of the magnificent book "Believing Women" in Islam:
Unreading Patriarchal Interpretation of the Qur'an), or the
writings of professor Tariq Ramadan (especially his recent
book titled IN THE FOOTSTEPS OF THE PROPHET: LESSONS FROM
THE LIFE OF PROPHET MUHAMMAD) and professor Ingrid Mattson
(author of THE STORY OF THE QUR'AN). They could learn
something useful that would, hopefully, prevent them from
engaging in such ludicrous practices, such as denying the
Ahmadi Muslims the right to define themselves as Muslims and
allowing hateful actions against them.
Regards,
Ibrahim |
|
Dear
Pervaiz,
I will be
more than happy to speak on behalf of liberal Muslims in a
debate hosted by Dr. Khalid Sohail and FOTH. I do not
consider socialist Muslims as not being liberal, but I do
believe some of them have become obsessed with
anti-Americanism, which is not the same as anti-imperialism
and the two are vastly different traits.
While both
Mussolini and Emperor Hirohito were both anti-American, they
were far from being anti-imperialist. Why then is the
anti-Americanism of Jamaat-e-Islami, the Muslim Brotherhood,
Hamas, Hezbollah and the Ayatollahs being painted as
anti-imperialism? None of them have a problem with what
Allama Iqbal called "Arab Imperialism" or the colonial
ventures of the Central Asian Muslims into India or
the invasion of Sind by Muhammad Bin Qasim.
Looking
forward to a healthy exchange to warm up the winter.

Dr. Sohail snatched
words from my mouth.
Dekhna Taqreer Ki
Lazzat Keh Jo Uss Nay Kaha
Main Nay Yeh Jana Keh
Goya Bhi Mere Dil Main Hay
Being an optimist I wish
Dr. Sohail's dream comes true. I had same wish since my
student days in Punjab University. Born and raised in an
extremely conservative and religious family I was newly
converted to humanist-socialist thinking. That was the time
when I was young, ambitious, motivated and highly convinced
that my newly found Nirvana is the only hope for humanity.
My first few days in university were a big sock to me.
Campus was filled with Moudoodists and they had a complete
control of both residential and academic buildings of
campus. The second shock was to see liberals divided in an
infinite number of small groups like NSF, PSF, NSO, PSO,
ISO, MSF, you name. All year round they fight with each
other on petty things but cobble a fragile alliance during
elections that they always loose. I observed similar
phenomena among progressive poets and
writers, the same writers whose writings triggered my
paradigm shift from a narrow minded fundamentalist to a
thinking liberal. After meeting them in person soon I found
that beside their ideology many of these great writers also
share jealousy, cocoon thinking and self-praise. I have
observed a very similar trait among prominent groups of
moderate Muslims. Fundamentalism feeds on ignorance
and poverty but 'enlightened moderates' starve themselves
with their cocoon thinking.
I completely agree with
Dr. Sohail and appreciate his noble intentions. We can
succeed if we agree that heterogeneity of views breeds
Creativity, diversity is beautiful and that difference of
opinion or criticism should not be taken as personal.

Dear Javed Chaudry Sahib....I thoroughly
enjoyed your story. I wish you write more stories and share
with us. Creative Writings have indirect and
metaphorical communications and readers can enjoy them by
putting their own meanings to them. That is why folktales
and mythologies of different cultures have survived over the
centuries. I call it wisdom literature. I do not think
anybody will be upset by your story, at least I am not. I
think we need to have big hearts and sense of humor which is
good for our mental health.

Dear
Moderators
I have two suggestions.
1. First suggestion relates to the order of messages. Right
now, the last message appears at the bottom of the link.
Perhaps it should appear at the top of link.
2. The second one relates to the name of the main link,
"Hyde Park kona". Family of the Heart is a group with
members who think beyond the box, original thinkers. Our
forum name should also be original name, not a copy from
another place.
May I suggest FOTH Free Speech Forum?
Other suggestions welcome, of course.

HOW ARE YOU, YOUR ORGANIZATION & YOUR ASSOCIATES ?
