Janab Pervaiz Sahib
From the discussion that we are having in this forum, and what I read on other
forums, and in the international media, I would very much have liked to learn
what
conclusion we can draw from this assassination. I was hoping to find some
intelligent direction towards democracy, future, unity and whatever might be
good
and no so good for and about Pakistan. Even though there is no shortage of very
highly educated, intelligent, widely experienced people participating in this
and
other forums and in Pakistan, I feel very disappointed from so many of them. All
one's got to do is read few letters written by very highly educated people. As
an
example, please re-read letter numbers 09, 11, 26, and 27 to name a few, here.
What
are these writers are trying to tell us?
Was this victim "Champion of democracy", "Hope for Pakistan", "Hope for the
poor",
"Hope for women", "Charismatic", etc. etc. etc? It kills me to see people in
Toronto, and Pakistan weeping and beating their chests. I look at these
"mourners"
as goats in the jungle mourning upon the death of lion. In fact this example
lacks
one main ingredient. The goats neither elect the lion, nor it is one of their
own.
But this time, after the assassination the spectacles the Pakistanis put up,
looting, burning, beating chests, and openly weeping for the BB who returned to
finish off the job that the family had started is most shameful. I will not
indulge
in details, as other people have already said that she was neither democratic
nor
sincere to Pakistan. But I have much more scarier thoughts. One thing that seems
so
conclusive to me is that Pakistanis, including those highly educated, are just
as
ignorant and badly divided as ever. This brings me to the next very scary
conclusion
that we neither know what democracy is, nor we are ready for it. This applies to
Pakistan in particular, and all humans in general. Few that have crossed the
barriers have often abused it by setting up fake disputes and imprisoning
innocent
people, without charge or trial.
Confusion remains? What to do? What next, if anything at all?
