Dear
Doctor Sahib,
Yes, you and I agree on a lot of things and it is always a pleasure to talk to
you, as always.
I took exception to two things, and you can respond to them if you like:
1. The atheist mullah is much more dangerous than the theist mullah as the
former knows no limits. After having diagnosed those who believe in a set of
beliefs as pychotic, it is only a matter of time that you lock them up in
concentration camps. You, as a person, may be of kind disposition, but others
may not. Mao, Hitler and Stalin were all atheists. A philosopher ( I forget
his name right now - I will look it up ) came to this paradox -- that the
atheist, in denying God -- gives his personal reason the status of God. I do
not consider an atheist to be a psychotic, but you just did. That is the issue
:)
History has shown that any substitute for God (one's own reason, democratically
elected government or the scientific process) is not enough to derive human
morality from. The bulk of present-day human morality is derived from religion
-- and all attempts at man-made moral systems (communism, Hitlerism, fascism)
have been more brutal and ruthless than any that religion could come up with.
2. You were confusing the fundamentalist Christian doctrines, Hindu beliefs and
Islamic beliefs -- and lumping them all into one bucket and also taking the
lowest common denominator as the criterion.
I hope this clarifies things.
Regards,
Your friend,
Akber Choudhry
