Thank you for welcoming me in "your male Planet."  I am stunned what you have made this planet under your male chauvinist rule.  As far as post 9/11 world and dogs of war are concerned, you forget world has a history and dogs have a nature which are not changed since time immemorial.  The comparison of violence between states and violence between individuals means that you  are mixing the psychology of two different beasts.  Violence is acceptable and legitimate in state behavior while it is immoral in individual behavior.   

What detente can achieve is limited, calculated, well perceived, well portrayed violence on a short term, agreed upon, and result oriented way, which can diminish chances of all out world war in favor of limited wars, border clashes and diplomatic crisis.  Is it hard to digest? 

Well you asked to summarize my thesis in 700 words, I did it in 41 words. explanatory note: Cold war ended with the election of Richard Nixon and the newly acquired ability of "second strike capability" of Soviet Union, which confirmed that the next stage will be Mutual Assured Destruction (MAD).

The period of Detente lasted for almost ten years, after that Gorbachove and Carter messed it up due to their idealistic follies.
